Voice
Voice is produced by use of the vocal folds and breathing to produce sound (e.g., the voice can be abused from overuse or misuse and can lead to hoarseness or loss of voice) (ASHA). Most of us have experienced problems with our voices, such as voice hoarseness or perhaps when sound is absent all together! Colds, allergies, bronchitis, exposure to irritants, or cheering for the Lowell Red Arrows on the football field can result in a loss of voice. Speech-language pathologists can help determine the need for intervention for voice disorders through an evaluation process.
